Broadband bliss..
« on: November 08, 2003, 09:55:05 AM »
We'd been told for months by BT's number checker that while our local exchange was 'enabled' for broadband, we were too far from the exchange to use it.  However, they have now boosted whatever it is they boost and we're enjoying some serious surfing through our Virgin.net connection. Caroline never had as much patience with dial-up as I had and got bored very quickly, so there's now serious competition for the iMac (she's a bit of a film fan and loves the movie trailers).

Guess I'll just have to get another Mac....  wink.gif

(Serious question - could we both surf at the same time without a lot of complicated networking?)

Yes. Like Bernie said, all you need is a router and some connections and you both surf at the same time.

Wow - what a great site! I could spend hours just going through that .  biggrin.gif  . Would have taken a look last night but we surfed into Channel 4 at the start of Four Weddings and a Funeral and couldn't tear ourselves away. Says a lot about a film when it has that effect on people who've seen it before and already know what happens. Shame about the badly programmed commercial breaks every 30 minutes  sad.gif

sufficient   simpler   and  far more inexpensive than a router is  a simple HUB
Buy a LinkSys™ Hub  on  ebay  for almost nothing.

Hubs are "dumb". Routers are "smart". smile.gif

With a Router you get hardwired Firewall protection. smile.gif
