Wacom Intuos2 tablet
« on: November 12, 2003, 09:23:19 AM »
Hi everyone.

I just got the Wacom Intuos2 tablet.  It takes getting used to.  Anyone have experience to share?

Some people say to put the mouse away and force yourself to use the pen. It seems reasonable enough. We tend to become familiar with usage.

Whether you try that method or not. The only way you will feel comfortable with the tablet is to use it. Set yourself up with some simple tutorials or just open a blank file and play.

Using the pen tool for painting is totally different from using it to create vector shapes. Both methods require a certain "touch".

I will say this... the more you use it, the more you're going to like it.

Thanks, Bruce.  I got it to use mostly in Flash.  I played with it for a couple of hours last night.  The weirdest part is when the arrow moves while your pen is still above the tablet.  I turned that feature off.

The Intuos is a great tablet.

It really shines in Painter, where the tilt comes into play and the brushes are made for the tilt. It's nice in Photoshop too, if your drawing and not cloning and stuff, the mouse does a better job for that IMHO.

I don't like using the pen for everything. I still like to mouse around when it comes to non graphic programs.

I use my tablet 100% of the time for everything. I haven't touched a mouse (other than to install the WACOM drivers) in years.

Photoshop has tilt too smile.gif

But yeah... Painter with a  tablet is great.

My Intuos2 started working as soon as I plugged it in.  Does that have something to do with OS X's "Ink"?  I tried installing the software, but it was opening up Classic, so instead I downloaded the Wacom software.

danf63,

It's Ink. The download gives you the driver and the Wacom Control panel where you can set it up with your pen and customize and adjust the settings on it.
