Paddy,
Congrats on your new Drebel.
I have the D60 but passed on the 10D. Wish the 300D had been available when I was in the market. Before the DSLR, I had a succession of digital cameras that progressively increased both the quality and enjoyment of taking photos. What I now recognize as a long slippery road unfailingly led to a digital SLR. Oh, the smooth and free-of-noise photos. Oh, the never ending need for a macro lens, a low-light lens, a long lens... Oh, the endless hours in Photoshop putting the final touches on the photos. I'm sure you see where this rambling is headed: I take much better photos but with less frequency and with less pleasure. The fun part was lost along the way, and enjoyment was what digital had brought back to my photography.
The Drebel is a fine camera and you will have much enjoyment. Keep watch along the way for pitfalls and wrong turns that can cause your fun and pocketbook to suffer. A few truisms - the body is the cheapest part of the camera system, an external flash like the 420EX is essential for low light photos and some post processing in Photoshop or like software is necessary for good quality DSLR photos.
Hey, I think this was a good talking-to to myself. Thanks for listening.
Finally, you are going to
that camera.
