I dunno if any of you followed any of Keiko's (Free Willy fame) adventures, but he passed on in Norway of pneumonia yesterday... I can't link directly to the press release, but you can get to it from here:
http://www.aquarium.org/keiko/I "met" Keiko when he was still in Newport, Oregon... it was an awful, windy and rainy day, but a perfect day to be there as it was during a visit to the Oregon coast that was my birthday gift end of April and certainly not cold by my standards... the bad weather meant that I had the animal practically to myself...
I was looking away for a second when I heard a muffled "bonk" on the aquarium window... I turned around and there was Keiko with his nose "mooshed" against the window looking at me... I met his gaze and I still swear we had "words"... he said that he didn't dislike humans nor did he hold a grudge and said to "be happy" essentially.
Call me crazy but that's roughly the "thoughts" I got... of course I'm a certifiable animal nut anyway...
Whatever the case to me his passing is the loss of a friend...
