Inadvertently Installed Apple Remote Desktop
« on: December 16, 2003, 04:38:44 PM »
oops.gif Like a fool, I OK'd the automatic update (via the Software Update) to Apple Remote Desktop. And sure enough, the DL proceeded normally. A quick system check indicates all is right with the world. But, what happened? I don't have, and never have had, Apple Remote Desktop.

The software update log indicates ARD is installed. A subsequent run of the Software Update does not indicate this item is needed. So I presume the DL was received OK. If there was no app to update, what did it do? And now what? Is there something I should do? Thinking.gif

You downloaded the CLIENT software. It's offered to everyone, on the outside chance that your computer is in an environment which uses the Apple Remote Desktop software...you obviously don't and have no need for it.

Find it and trash it, if you wish... or just let it hang around... wink.gif

Thanks Karl! I sorta suspected it was something like that, but best to check with them what knows...

I did try to find that rascal as I foresee no need in ever having it, but can't find it. Might you know what it's called, and because in Indiana we always end sentences in prepositions, and run them on as well, do ya know where it's at?

Harv, forget what I said earlier...and let it hang around.

The client app came with Panther, that's why the update is showing in Software Update...I didn't know that.

Using locate in the Terminal found it for me, it's in /System/Library/CoreServices/ARD Agent.app

Whew... sweatingbullets.gif

The ARD client resides in the System folder, which is protected, so you'd have a heck of a time trying to trash it, but even if you did...I don't think it would hose the system. However, as you know, it's best to leave the stuff in there alone. wink.gif
