I've been using SilverKeeper for some time now to back up my files to an external drive. Just today, I decided to run the "Compare" to check out my back up sets immediately after running the back ups. Unfortunately, I found that SilverKeeper failed to reliably back up my most important files- some created in Office X and my Quicken files. When running "compare", that dates were identical, but the sizes were different. When I opened each file to compare, the file that I assumed was backed up was an older file. What frustrates me is that just 2 weeks ago, I wiped my drive clean to install Panther. I dragged over all my files after the install, assuming each file was identical to the originals. Now, I have financila files and inventory files that I can safely say are not up-to-date. And I don't know where or how to go back to the original just before I wiped the drive. Is this what I wshould expect with back up software (even though it is free from Lacie), or should I expect more reliability? Now I have to revert to manual drags to guarentee reliable back ups. Where else can I turn for a reliable back up system? Should I have to compare files to make sure of its reliability?!
