1GHZ eMac - Ok to load OS9 on partition?
« on: February 01, 2004, 11:40:26 PM »
Hi

i am considering buying a new eMac - 1GHZ either with combo or superdrive - which is now sold as single 10.3 boot-up.

Does anyone have any experience of whether it is still possible to load and then boot up from OS9.2 on a separate partition. I have the install disks and updates for OS9.1 > 9.2 > 9.2.2

I assume that the eMac comes with install disks so hopefully I will be able to load 9.2 on the first partition and then 10.3 on the second. Any ideas?

Also I seem to be a 'Poster Child' on the left here! Very flattering at 47. Any ideas how to change it to sthg more suitable? e.g. 'Poster Wrinkly '?

Thanks

Richard

Gee, sorry to disappoint you but the new eMacs are not bootable into 9 anymore. I believe the latest eMacs that are bootable into nine were made last spring/summer.

As for the poster child, that will change when you get over 30 posts. We have silly titles for posters according to the number of posts they have made.
Oh, and to make you feel a bit better, the majority of TSers are are living in wrinkle city as well. wink.gif

If no one has officially welcomed you, let me do so...

I did find this article which pretty much says most will not, however it leaves open a possibility that you may be able to find a few that will boot. Being in the UK you may be able to find some that are earlier models and still bootable. You may also wish to try through the education store as many schools still require booting into 9.

Computer that will only boot X

Hi Krissel

thanks for the welcome and the advice - i will see if I can scout out an emac aimed at the education market (I am a teacher) that will boot into OS9 . .... I knew I shouldn't have waited.

i might have to hang on to my 350mhz iMac a bit longer!

Hi Richard and welcome.
You might check out CancomUK who have emacs including this one. London stores in Croydon and Kensington.

Good luck

Thanks Highmac

Unfortunately this is overpriced -£645 for a refurb / returned 700mhz albeit dual boot.

I could get a new 1Ghz (same spec otherwise) from the Apple Education store for £609.83!!!

unfortunately my school is under the thumb of the Evil Empire and Apples were phased out before the Return of  the King (Jobs) so not much chance of getting a Mac at work.
