ibook memory upgrade
« on: January 29, 2004, 02:41:57 PM »
Have a friend with an ibook G3/600.  We want to onstall Jag on it, but the ibook has but 128 M RAM in it.  Doable?

And since we're on the subject.....how hard is an ibook's memory to upgrade?

Little words, big pictures.

Upgrading RAM is extremely simple.

Here's a movie:

I have a G3/600 iBook and I think that 128MB RAM would be very limiting, if it can be done at all running OS X.  I have relatively small applications running as I type this, and I am using 153MB of RAM.

Memory installation is pretty easy...just make sure to seat it correctly.  If it isn't just right, the new RAM won't show up as installed.  It took me several tries the first time I installed RAM before I got it right.

I would also be sure to get RAM from a reputable source; I had to get three RAM modules before I had one without defects.

Thank you.  Exactly what I needed Spartacus!

Mayo:  Thank you for the vote of confidence.

It's ordered from OWC.256M for $43.75

Installing the ram is easy. The only thing to really make sure that you get bot of the little screws on the AirPort bracket out smoothly. I have had to disassemble two iBooks from people losing the screws into the AirPort card slot. The screws got lodged against the motherboard but would not shake out. I would make sure you remove the screws before you try to move the airport card bracket.
Thanks
