Vuescan purchase question
« on: March 05, 2003, 07:52:00 PM »
Well i was ready to buy this thing so i could use my Umax S6-E with OSX, and when i get to the purchase page, they have  $19, $49 and $79 versions of the sofware and Mr. Hamrick doesnt explain what the difference is.
Why do i feel i'll have to get the Pro edition to get any results with this? As it is, i cant use it with Photoshop.
Yes OS9 holdouts, you have good reason to fear to tread but there's no going back for me, at least until my wife returns.
Now $19 seems right but $79 is damn close to what a new scanner costs these days. Anyone familiar with this?

All I know is it doesn't work with my UMAX 2000U scanner. I'll have to scan in OS9.

Make sure you check the scanners that work with it before purchasing it.

, I did not know that about the vuescan software.

I suppose for less you could just get a new scanner that already has OS X support.

Hi,

When I bought VueScan it was "one price fits all" so I can't help you there. But, I can suggest that you send him an email. He's pretty responsive. I had a question for him and got an answer pretty quickly. (Within a day.)

a triple post!

RobW, how much was your Perfection 1250 when you purchased it?  I wish this was available before I forked over my $100 to Costco.      Still, back then it was a real good deal.

Yeah, I saw we hit the trifecta with our posts. Al, you and Gary need to get out more.    I not certain what I paid for the scanner, but I'm thinking it was about a $100 or so. (I remember that being about the amount I was looking at back then--and I didn't go for the attachment.)

Is there a duty to stick with something that has served me well?

Hingyfan,

My guess is the different prices reflect the number of licences you buy. The lowest price is for a single user and the highest price is for someone buying some number N or greater.

LOL, hingyfan, that's how I felt... But alas, I caved in and purchased some new hardware and software too.

You could use the other scanner for a second Mac or something...???

I thought Vuescan was like $35 at one time, when you mentioned it, I was surprised to see the price variations at their web site.

Reading their pruchase page.

https://www.hamrick.com/reg.html

it seems that the more you pay the more you get.

ICC profiles  no  no  yes
Multiple color spaces no no yes
Create raw scan files no no yes
IT8 color calibration no no yes

For $23 plus I think it was around $15 for shipping that Perfection 1250 is a pretty darn good deal.  Once Epson came out with OS X drivers I was very satisfied with mine.
