Micromat TT4 Deal
« on: February 23, 2003, 01:12:00 PM »
I need a Disk utility for Mac OS X.  Micromat is running what looks like a very good deal.  By Drive 10 or Tech Tool Pro 3 and receive Tech Tool Pro 4 upgrade for free.   http://www.micromat.com/

I think the way to go would be to buy Drive 10 for the TT4 upgrade rather than buying TT3.  TT3 would be the old version of TT4.  If Drive 10 is purchased it would be more like having two usable OS X native utilities correct?

And there's an even better deal if you already own TTP 3 - a "sidegrade" purchase of Drive 10 PLUS the free upgrade to TTP4 all for $52.95. Separately, the TTP4 upgrade for TTP3 owners is $49.95 - so really, you're getting Drive 10 for a mere $3. Think I may go for this one!

Thanks Ryan - been too buried with an election campaign here to pay ANY attention to stuff like this lately.

Haven't there been a  lot of questions posted on TS over the past year(s) about the effectiveness of Drive 10?

Hi Paddy, I don't own any Disk utility program.  Also saw that the new version of Drive 10 will now defrag the HD.  Would probably use TT4 for the most part though.

Hey Paddy, I was about to purchase Drive 10 which would allow me to later receive the TT4 upgrade for free.  Well, when Micromat says UPGRADE, does that mean you must already own TT3 for it to work or will the upgrade CD be the full working version of TT4?  I do not own any version of TechTools.

I've never had much luck with Drive 10 ... I got it when it first came out, upgraded a few times and finally gave up on it.

The only reason I would purchase Drive 10 would be to get the free TT4 when it comes out.  I just don't see the point of buying TT3 to get a free version of TT4.  This way I would have Drive 10 and TT4.  Drive 10 now optimizes the HD which it hadn't in the past.  Anyway, I would most likely use TT4 mostly.

Also,  TT3 costs $85.  Drive 10 costs $69.  Buying either gets you the free version of TT4.  You do the math.

This topic on TT4 got me thinking.

I purchased my G4 (MDD) in August, 2002 along with the AppleCare Protection Plan. The TechTool Deluxe v2.5.6 that came with the AppleCare plan is not compatible with my computer. There is now a downloadable upgrade which allows me to use TTD in Classic Mode.

Today, I called AppleCare to ask if they had plans to give AppleCare subscribers an upgrade that is compatible with OS X. (I used that tactic on purpose.)

After some deliberating and waiting while the person talked with someone else, he came back with: "We will send you a copy of version 3 in the mail."

Obviously, it's good to speak up!
