trying to move from MS to Mail.app
« on: February 01, 2003, 07:34:00 AM »
Since going over to OSX, I've become more Apple aware and would like to get away from MS products wherever there are Apple replacements.  This is the case with Entourage and Mail.  I successfully exported and imported addresses from Entourage to Address Book.  I like the integration between Address Book and Mail.  I find Mail has a very simplified interface- that's okay.  But I find this- when I open up Addresses in Mail and click "To", nothing happens.  Is there any known issues where Mail doesn't work in some area?  I'm willing to move entirely over to Mail if it works.  Does anyone have any experience using Mail as a default email app?  What are the limitations with Mail compared to Entourage?  I was an OE user in OS9, but, since it's not native X, it's out.

The same thing annoys me about Mail. In Eudora the address book is directly connected so double clicking a listing brings up a new message window already addressed.

In X the Address book is a separate app from Mail. You need to create a list of people from within Mail and damned if I can't remember exactly the route right now. (I use 9 and don't have my PB with X up and running.) If no one comes by with the answer by tmrw, I'll fire up the PB and see if I can get the method.

I'm disappointed in the way OSX Mail works too. The way I have become accustomed to addressing a new message is to just start typing the actual name of the person, or in some cases the email user name. Either way, the address line takes the hint and finishes the line or gives me a list of possiblities.

By the time Apple fixes the "Show Addresses" function, I probably will never use it anyway.
