Assure me with this DW Directory Replacement
« on: February 05, 2003, 02:37:00 PM »
I have Disk Warrior someone gave me on CD- 2.1.1  I previously used DW 2.0 on my Mac OSX partition.  With 2.1.1, I see that it does a folder type of comparison- and this is the first time I've seen this notice in red before clicking "replace":  "Comparison of the original and the replacement directory indicates that there will be changes to the number, the contents and/or the attributes of the files and folders.  It is recommended that you preview the replacement directory and examine the item listed below."  I decided to check with you guys before going ahead on replacing the directory on my Mac OSX partition, which has 16% out of order.  Does DW 2.1.1 check something that 2.0 doesn't?

For sure there are folks who know much more about this stuff than I, but FWIW, I have used DW 2.1.1 to "replace" several times and never have I regretted it.

DiskWarrior is telling you, in a convoluted way, "I have found some errors and fixed them. Use the Preview button to check to make sure that I haven't accidentally erased all your files or something like that."

DW 2.0 would find and fix the same problems, but wouldn't give you that dire 9and cryptically-worded) message.

So: DW has found errors. if you replace the directory, the errors will be fixed. Generally, that's what you want to do.

Yes, Harv's right, that should be no cause for alarm.
It happens.      It's partly what Disk Warrior's for, and you'll notice the option to compare the two directories as well.
It particularly happens to me if I've had reason to shift a load of stuff from one partition to another, but there can be various causes.

I've never had a problem replacing such a directory; and I haven't always done it with the complete backup(s) one's supposed to have ready to hand.

Sorry, tacit, answered the 'phone and missed your post.
