Cordless Rechargeable Optical Mouse for OSX?
« on: March 19, 2003, 05:27:00 PM »
Does anyone make a cordless rechargeable optical mouse that runs under OSX? I just bought a Logitech but when I got home I discovered it only works on 8.6 - 9.2. The exterior of the package said it worked with Mac. Back to the store with this one.

Cordless Rechargeable Optical Mouse for OSX?

Interesting - I have a Logitech wireless optical mouse which I tried feeding rechargeable NiMH batteries...it went beserk after about a day and a half. Finally read the instructions only to discover that rechargeables were NOT recommended. Seems they're lower voltage than alkaline AA's and the mousie doesn't like this - particularly as they start to drain. So, started feeding it the required alkalines. And fed it more and more...every 10 days or so, another set. This was getting reeediculous. And expensive. So, I went back to my trusty MS Intellimouse Explorer. Still use the Logitech occasionally for presentations (works as a remote for Powerpoint presentations if you don't get too far away...and yes, I know that Logitech makes something actually intended for this purpose    )

Anyway, this Kensington rechargeable mouse looks interesting...was wondering when someone would figure out that optical mice eat batteries at a prodigous rate and might benefit from a rechargeable option.

Now if only Apple would see the light and produce a nice optical (cordless?) mouse with a SCROLL button. What do they have against scroll buttons anyway? Just seems like a no-brainer to me...

jrhino, are you sure that your Logitech does not work with OS X?  Both mine work fine and Logitech even supplies an OS X preference panel.

Very nice, Harv, that mouse looks sweet.

Interesting Paddy, that's a lot of batteries!       I have two Logitech MouseMan Opticals and they last about 2 months between battery changes.  Rechargable NiCad AAs are rated at 1.2 volts verses 1.5 volts for regular AAs.  Making the starting voltage to low to run certain items properly.

Al, I don't know why mine was going through them so fast (maybe because I was spending too much time at the computer?   ) - I do wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that my G4 is on 24/7 and I wasn't putting it into deep sleep at that point because of SCSI card issues (which now seem to be solved) - so the mouse may have not gone to sleep properly either. Anyway, when push comes to shove, I like the smoother scroll wheel on my MS Intellimouse.

And I was using Duracells, so can't blame it on the batteries...

Jrhino,

Did you try installing the latest ver. of  Logitech Control Center (LCC) for OS X?

I'm having the same results with my Logitech cordless that Al is. . .No probs, and at least 2-3 months on the battery!  I love it!
