What are fast forums?
« on: March 22, 2003, 10:35:00 PM »
As ou have read....we would like to "speed up" the forum.  But what/where are fast forums?

Give me apples to compare with my apples
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

The CuteCast board on MacUpgrade.com is fast - and free. However, it runs on UNIX or NT. Not LINUX.

Another one I found: http://www.yabbforum.com/

It runs on LINUX. You can check out a few of their forums if you go to their forum, and then click on some of the poster's URL's.

http://www.yabbforum.com/community/?board=graph_temp

Not quite as fast as CuteCast, but not bad. Checked out the biggest threads I could find.

It's free too, if you leave various things alone.

I liked this link from the OSXFactor site:

So...any chance this thread will get back around to answering Jenny's question?

Bernie,

The TS reference on the http://www.mactoolbox.com/ site is:

1- In the right column, select Troubleshooting in page 3.

2- At the very bottom of page 3, Techsurvivors is second to the last reference.

jb

PS. I would appreciate the next time you list apple references that you also list the URL's! (Chuckle! Chuckle!)

Bernie - how could you list apples and leave out the best-flavoured (IMHO) of them all, the cox's orange pippin (You did ask for it, jb), while including the ghastly Golden Tasteless (ours usually come from France... I'll stop there). Thanks to New Zealand, we can get Cox's for most of the year.

Personally I have no problem with speed on TS - even on dial-up at home it seems as fast, if not faster, than others I go to.

Jen, http://forums.macnn.com/ on it’s own server, running vBulletin 2.2.9
direct link to a selected forum, just like most folks get here. On a DSL it’s complete in 7 seconds.
http://forums.macnn.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=65

Now go-to this thread and open it up, a full page with all the icons and knobs, and it took me 35 seconds to open it.
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?threadid=147406

Your mileage may vary.

Personally I would suggest closing the review page below the reply box for starters, it takes an additional 15 seconds to open and post a reply. There's a lot of time wasted on the action smileys, larger text, and maybe (High rez)heavy HTML Banners, quite possibly a shave and a trim would lighten the load.
