Now, I\'ll ask about 128 MB DIMMS in a 9500 .?

Now, my second question.
My 9500 currently has the following 464MB RAM DIMM profile:
A1 - 64
A2 - 64
A3 - 64
A4 - 8
A5 - 16
A6 - 16
B1 - 64
B2 - 64
B3 - 64
B4 - 8
B5 - 16
B6 - 16
I have been given 2 x 128MB DIMMS.
Can I use these in my 9500?
If so, how should I configure the overall set-up.?
Should I just 'dump & replace' the existing 8MB units to give me 704MB?
Also, I have been told these new DIMMS can be 'interleaved'.
What does that mean?
Very Many Thanks in advance,
David L

Here you go, David. Think this should explain it all:
http://intranet.logiconline.org.ve/Techinf...pm9500dimn.html
BTW - those 128MB chips should work just fine - when the 9500 came out RAM didn't exist in 128MB units. Since your machine takes up to 1536MB in the 12 slots, 128MB is the max.
And your RAM is already interleaved - so sub out that 8MB in A4 and B4 and you should be good to go, as long as the RAM meets the other specs (voltage etc) listed.

Stupid question, but do you really mean that you can't have more than 1.5 GB(?) of RAM in a 9500? Do they make compatible 256's, and if they do, what afect would they have,, woul it crash, or just not recognize it?

Hello David. let me add my Welcome to the Forum.
If it was me, I'd toss the small, older RAM.
It doesn't add that much and might be slowing things down.
Peter. I always check what they list at OWC for any given model.
They only show up to 128 MB chips for the 9500.

My guess is, if there are 256 MB chips they'd just show 128.

I don't think they make anything larger than the 128 for those old powermacs. A maxing of RAM for you would be a 128 in each slot.
