9500 + 2 x 17" + 1 x 15" = CHAOS!!
« on: April 07, 2003, 01:15:00 PM »
Well, they all work, but  my 17" monitors suffer from some  serious "Colour Blurring".

It's a sort of random 'drift' which gives a blurring (smudging) of a dominant colour.

It varies according to the PCI slot position.

At the moment, my #1 Monitor has a green/yellow smudge whilst #2 has a purple smudge.

#3 is the 15" monitor which is 100% OK.

Does the above info PLUS any of the following System Profile information make sense to anyone?

David, this may be completely the wrong answer, but do you happen to have any speakers sitting near these 17" monitors? Magnets (like those found in speakers) do very weird things to monitors, including producing really interesting color effects. My seven year old was watching something on TV (no, not TechTV) a couple of days ago and then plopped down at his computer with a fridge magnet and made the comment "cool...it does work"...at which point I turned around to find out what the heck he was doing and found him playing with the magnet on his monitor. Something he saw on TV!

Anyway, when I first set up my mini stereo, one of the speakers was sitting on the desk beside the monitor...and there were some very interesting pretty colors on that side of the monitor! Moving the speaker and deguassing the monitor solved the problem.

An interesting observation Paddy - thank you.

Yes, I have electro-statics at each rear corner of my desk!

I'm ashamed that I didn't think of that myself.

I'll move them out when I get home from work and let you know the result.

Thanks again.

I've removed the speakers from the desk and things are looking better.
Monitor #1 seems to be 100% (fingers crossed).
#2 is not as bad as it was but there is still some streaky blurring. The 'power' speaker was about 9" behind it.

How do I de-gauss?

They are old 17" Multiple Scans and I've long since lost the manuals. Tried Apple.com for a PDF version but there's no mention of de-gaussing.

Regards to all
