G3 DT 400 MHz Zif, 784 MB RAM, OS 9.1 and 10.1.5
Alert readers will recall that I have my Mac connected to my stereo system (in the tape loop) so that I can record on the Mac any audio that I play on the stereo and listen on the stereo to any audio that I play on the Mac.
Consequently, I expect that I am way more 'sensitive' than most users in regard to the audio subtleties of this configuration.
Here's my prob:
There is an 'input level' setting in the Sound Control Panel (v.8.5.2) that defaults to its lowest setting after every reboot, in spite of the fact that I must re-set this level to a different value in order to achieve 'unity gain' (no change in the apparent volume when I engage or disengage the Tape Monitor button) in my system.
I zapped the PRAM multiple times to no effect, upgraded to OS 9.2 and 9.2.2 (both of which share this same 'bug', so I went back to 9.1), and before you advise me to go to OS X, I do run 10.1.5 and as far as I have been able to determine it provides no Input Level adjustment at all!
The bottom line is that I have simply 'put up' with this annoyance for far too long and now I want to find a solution.
Can I find or write an AppleScript that re-sets this specific parameter (the input level gain setting) and place it in the Startup Items folder so that it is automatically set to the level I specify after every reboot?
I have only the barest smattering of knowledge about AppleScripting (I have been using for several years one that I found on the web called DeskTop Restore, because I like a closer icon spacing than is possible with the OS default), so any detailed instructions, or pointers to web resources, will be very welcome.
TIA,
