Computer not shutting down?
« on: April 13, 2003, 01:51:00 AM »
New glitch.  I rarely turn off the computer, but I seem to recall that when I do, everythng stops, including the fan.  I turned it off from the keyboard and although it makes the shutdown sound and the monitor goes off, the fan is still running full speed.  What do I do about this?

Sorry about that!  G4 733, OS 9.2 (can't get myself to take the plunge into X despite the fact that Jaguar is sitting in a sealed box on my desk!) Three drives, two internal, one external LaCie firewire, palm, USB hub, zip 250, Epson printer and Epson scanner.

What about if you use the Special Menu to shut down?

You said you used  the Keyboard.

Just trying to figure if it was a Keyboard issue.

Try unplugging all your peripherals.

Also. Look at your Energy Saver Preferences.

Maybe something here.

Read everything - seems this is not an uncommon problem.  Set my energy saver prefs for separate hard drive sleep, disabled hot sync at startup for the Palm, still the same problem.  Would activity from cable modem have any effect on a computer which is off?

Finaly called Apple (Have Apple Care) and after running me through several steps, determined I had a problem (Good morning!).  They referred me to a local place and the guy is coming Thursday morning - says I probably need a new fan switch.  Let ya know.
