Problems with printing panorama
« on: September 29, 2003, 01:05:47 AM »
Been fighting with my Epson Stylus Photo 870 and Photoshop (and Preview, just to try) without any result. I just can't make my own custom paper size even if the option is there and I can select it. The print either prints from the middle of the image or at the end... in the regular A4-format.

I have wasted about 12-15 feet of Premium Glossy Photo paper on this darn thing!!!

Anyone know if there's some problems with Epson and custom set paper sized and if there's a trick to fix it?

The paper size I'm trying to use is 140 x 21 cm (the image is 130 x 20 cm) which just don't seem to stick.

Using Phothoshop 7.0.1, Mac OS X 10.2.8, the drivers that Epson has on their webpage as well as the ones built in OS X, neither works.

Any ideas???
/Petra

Hi Petra,

I have heard about the banner printing problems with Epson, but I haven't actually tried the workarounds that seem to be sucessful.

I would recommend that you take a look at Gimp-Print and the drivers they have for Epson printers.

I've tried to install Gimp-print without any luck. It's impossible to choose their driver instead, it just doesn't show up. I'll reboot and see if that helps, but so far no luck.

Maybe there's a limitation in how long "banner" you can print?

Since everything worked so good in OS 9 (printing a meter or so), I never thought I'd have problems when I upgraded to OS X. I just never did a panorama print until now after I began running OS X only. So I'm not sure if it's problems with the drivers from Epson (or the built-in from Apple) or if it's OS X itself.

I guess I should be happy I found the problem now and not in 6-7 weeks when I really need to get this job done. Now I have a while to figure out how to fix the problem.

If you find any info on the "banner problem" with some links, let me know.
