My son has been using IE 5.2.2 on OS 10.2.4 and yesterday I started quiting on him.
I just found out about it so I launched it and the splash screen comes up a translucent page opens and then I get a message box that it has quit.

I trashed it and downloaded it and installed it again. It did the same thing.

I repaired permissions and that all.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I can get him to switch browsers.

He likes IE though.

Gary, I have been using IE 5.2.2 since it was first released without major problems. Sometimes (rarely) a frozen page required me to quit IE and then relaunch it, but on the whole it worked fine; though I am now migrating to Safari.

But to the issue (my best shot), when you reinstalled IE, did you trash all of the residuals? I suggest saving, in as separate location, (only) the User/Preferences/Explorer folder as it contains the Favorites. Do a search on Explorer and trash everything else. Then reinstall IE. If that goes OK, replace the new Explorer folder with the one you saved.

Gary, I really don't know if that will work, but under the circumstances, I think it is worth a try.

5.2.2. sometimes 'stalls' on me. A relaunch is all it needs.
Better than that slow poke Safari.

I did as you said and the only 2 files I couldn't trash were
2 files that belonged to root.

I redownloaded Explorer 5.2.2 and reinstalled and bingo! It worked. So I quit and replaced his Favorites and he's back in business.

It felt good going into that Preferences folder and trashing something! Just like the........................good old days?

One more thing.

One of the things I trashed was one of those orange and yellow boxes with the top open.....Something like Internet Explorer package or whatever.

I thought those things were sacred, but I guess not.

I just did a search and trashed the lot.

Gary, Glad it all worked out. But before things get too far along, it may still worth the effort (IMNHO) to Repair Permissions, run fsck -y, and DiskWarrior (if you have it).

Yes. Those little boxes.

I ran Diskwarrior, repaired permissions but not fsck -y. How do you do that? the only reference I have for that is Pogue and he says you have to startup with the Command -S but I haven't messed with the terminal that way. Is that the way to do it?
