Back in business

Hello folks,
As some remember, my PowerMac Quicksilver was struck by lightening.  It would not turn on.  I had finally got it to a Mac repair shop who has just within the past year started selling and repairing Macs.  The shop is an hour away from my home but the closest to me.  They charged me $35 just to look at it.  They had it over a week to tell me one of the circuit boards had been fried.

My surge protector's modem protection had been used up so I had to connect the phone line direct to the phone jack.  That is how the board was fried.  They told me it would cost close to $500 to repair my Quicksilver.  Didn't go that route.

I ended up buying a 17" iMac from them.  I get home and have it hooked up in no time.  Then I run into a problem.  I am on dialup internet.  I notice the iMac does not have a phone jack.  I call the computer store I bought it from to ask them about it.  They tell me that new computers do not come with internal modems.  I need to buy an external modem.  Mmmmm, why coudn't they tell me that when I bought the computer?  Again, they are an hour away from my home.  I ordered the small white external modem Apple makes from MacMall.  What a mess I had.

Anyway, I am now starting to feel like I am getting things back to normal.  I wasn't sure how my old Mac games I love to play would work on the new Intel iMac.  Surprisingly very well.   Even if OS X has to run the games through a separate program in order for them to work with the Intel processor.  WarCraft III runs much better then on my old computer.

I suggest that you look into getting a Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect the new iMac. smile.gif

Thanks you two, so far I am enjoying it very much.  I will have to load it with music and pics then I can try out this nifty remote.   smile.gif

bil, I will keep in mind the uninterruptible power supply.  As of now, I have a new surge protector connected.  With a phone line connection.  I want to get in the habbit of unhooking the phone line from the wall when it is not in use and only connecting with needing to use the internet.
