I think it's kind of ironic that they're asking Apple to report in a week when everyone already knows it's the stinking Sony batteries:

QUOTE
Japan's trade ministry ordered Apple's Japan branch to report on its findings and measures to prevent future troubles by Sept. 5 or it could face a fine of up to 300,000 yen ($2,570) under Japan's consumer safety laws.

Maybe Apple could suggest that all new batteries will now be made in Korea! Or, worse yet, America! Or maybe they can suggest the trade board contact Sony for more info, it might even be a "local" call! harhar.gif eusa_dance.gif

Dell has already recalled batteries from affected models in Japan. Batteries powering Sony's Vaio laptops don't have the same problems, according to the Tokyo-based manufacturer.

who knows... this may be something to get people to buy Sony Vaio laptops...
since THEIR OWN LAPTOPS ARE NOT AFFECTED!

FYI, I received an emal battery recall notice today from Apple, having purchased a 12" G4 1.3 GHz PB almost exactly 2 years ago.

The msg cited "9 confirmed incidents" of overheating batteries, and mentioned that Sony was the supplier.

My battery's serial number was not in the specified range for replacement.
