OT - 1955 Good Wife's Guide

A friend sent this to my wife. I was in college in 1955. My mother was a "super" housewife (cooking, cleaning, sewing, bookkeeper, etc) & raised 3 boys, but I don't remember her doting on my dad like the article advises. She had a college degree in Home Economics from Michigan State.

Articles like this probably resulted in the women's lib movement. We can laugh now, but it probably wasn't too "funny" at the time.

OMG. I have been married 3 times. My first wife who I married in 1955, was a brilliant mathematician/CPA who introduced me to the women's likberation movement in the 70s. If she ever saw that article, she would have exploded and my life would have been in danger. My second wife was a PhD and an acedemic dean of instruction at as large CA communitycollege. If she had seen that article and thought I supported it, my life would have ended in a blink of an eye. My current wife is a RN specializing in oncolgy nursing and oncology research. I do p;an to show it to her but she knows I regard it as a joke.

The article gives us males a good glimppse into what women have been putting up with over the years - suppression of their identity!

The sad thing is that there are groups of people today (Amish for instance) who do adhere to the 'guidance' above. Much of the second and third world have societies that promulgate this kind of thinking.

Obviously, many of those are WAY over the top. However, my lovely wife, a school teacher, always freshens up in the summer before I come home. If she's been outside working in her garden in the heat (she likes to garden, I don't) she stops with enough time to shower before starting to make dinner. It's nice to give her a hug and a kiss when she has powdered more than her nose. I've never "had" to do that when she was sweaty from her hard day's work.

Heh! Too funny. My mom, of all people, taped a list very similar to this in her favorite cookbook. When I asked her about it, she said she kept it there to remind her to be herself and the world be da*ned.

The only thing I truly agree with on that list is "Don't greet him with complaints and problems." I always made it a point to greet Sneakers with a hug/kiss/smile. His job was stressful in it's own right and the fact he came home alive and in one piece every day was reason for me to rejoice.

Besides, when I'd been gone anywhere (work or off playing), I wanted to be greeted in a nice fashion when I returned home - not hit with, "I plugged up the dishwasher."
