Applications Folder missing from HD

If you drag them one at a time into the Sounds folder, you'll be given the option to Authenticate, at which time you enter your Password.

If that does not work out, try doing the copying when booted to a CD.

Glad you were able to make it visible again, Dakota; FileBuddy is another app that can do this sort of thing, but since it's not free, I didn't suggest it. XRay is free, and sounds like a handy sort of thing to have around. (FileBuddy also gets less than stellar reviews on it's more recent/beta versions - and several at VersionTracker noted that the beta has stopped working and there is no replacement)

And I'll second Bob's admonition about Norton - do NOT, under any circumstances, reinstall it. It is no longer supported for OS X and it's issues are now legion. I'm of the opinion that one doesn't need anti-virus software in OS X for the very simple reason that there are NO OS X viruses out there in the wild. However, if you really feel the need for it though, go for ClamAV; http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24449 (it's free!)

One technique which really helps in cases like this:

In the Finder, if you hold down the Command key on the keyboard and click on the name of a window for an open folder, you will see exactly where that folder is on the hard drive. So if you click on the Applications in the side bar, then Command-click on the title of the window, you'll see where it is.

Also, you can move a folder by clicking on the little picture of the folder in the title bar, and dragging it to where you want it to be. So the easy fix for this problem would be to click on Applications in the sidebar, and when your applications window opens, click on the picture of the folder, hold down the mouse button, and drag to your hard disk.

I had tried dragging it from the sidebar, but it went up in a poof of smoke the same way the items from the dock do, when you remove them.  I will gladly take the advice on Norton.  I do have another question.  Anyone using any firewall other than Apple's own, like Net Barrier? Is it necessary, does it do any good?  Asking only because I do own it, just never installed it on this computer.

Do you use a router? I consider one essential if using an always-on broadband connection. Generally, the combination of a router which provides a hardware firewall and Apple's built-in software firewall is pretty darn good, and will do the job. No need for additional software.

Oh, thanks. I couldn't find it via Search. I see it really wasn't the same problem but similar enough to make a few cells of my grey matter speak to me...
