Audio Hijack Pro
« on: October 09, 2006, 03:44:19 AM »
I was looking for an audio program that would work seamlessly in my iBook now and move to a new MacPro when I get around toit, and found that Audio Hijack Pro 2 has everything to capture sound from anywhere in may be found, icluding iChats and Skype.

Has anyone had any experience with the software, and is there a better program to consider?

Thanks. coolio.gif

I've used Audio Hijack off & on for several years. It's always been totally reliable for me.

Once you have the sounds, take a look at Amadeus to use as a sound editor. I use it for such simple tasks as fading crowd noise from live music cuts, but it does much more. $30 at:

I have WireTap Pro (WTP) and like it fine, though I seldom use it. It’s stable, intuitive, easy to use, problem free, etc. I chose it based on Ambrosia’s (generally favorable) reputation. But if it is better than Audio Hijack, I dunno. dntknw.gif

The Version Tracker ratings favor Audio Hijack (4.6 stars vs. 4.5 stars for current versions).

Were I to purchase again, I would, however, select Audio Hijack Pro:
1. It’s already UB, WTP is not.
2. It doesn’t call home, as WTP does…uh, to check for updates. FWIW, there is no WTP preference to disable this “feature”. I had to use Little Snitch. rant.gif

"Little Snitch"... one of the best utilities out there I would say.
Please be careful with waving that Aks arround Pendragon tongue.gif

I used Audio Hijack Pro to test it also and as far as I remember it did and worked as advertised... just like "WireTap" did I must add.
I guess at that point for some reason I wanted to capture sound for some reason.
Oooh... actually, after trying those two i think I went to try Snapz pro cause I wanted a clear way to explain something over the internet.
Snapz Pro is a great movie capture software, pitty it's payable wink.gif

FWIW:

I asked Ambrosia:
"Is a new, Universal Binary version of WTP soon to be released?"

Their reply:
"The latest version of WireTap Pro is fully compatible and functional under Rosetta.

We are working on a complete rewrite of WireTap Pro now. This version will be a Universal Binary."

Thanks for Amadeus II Tom, I'll be looking in on it! wink.gif

Harv, I just downloaded both and it's easy to see why Hijack is better, and more expencive. I like the split feature they offer, the interface is nicer, smoother, automated. I does cost $32 and $10 additionally for UB but for me it's worth it.

I haven't found anything the Wiretap has that is not availible in Hijack, though they both do many things, Hijack splits and handles a larger variety of file formats.

Mrious_be I like the  Snapz pro idea, I wish one progam did it all!!  notworthy.gif

Thanks folks  salute.gif

On the editing side, I like Sound Studio. It can split by markers that you place where you want. It can save in at least 5 formats. It has many virtual electronic signal processors. It makes editing a specific piece of the track easy by 'zooming' in on the sound wave. I think it costs $40 but I can't remember the last time I paid for an upgrade. I also use it to record the sound at Church three times a week - it's very reliable! But it is not made for grabbing all sound coming through the machine nor converting to every format known to man. I may start doing the 'intros' I use GarageBand for on SS, also. All I need are two tracks, anyway. The 'ducking' can easily be done with the "Fade Out" and "Fade In". One less app to deal with...smile.gif
