Being somewhat cautious type, I'd stuck with Safari since I got the G5 - but it was getting so slow I thought I'd give FF2 a go. Quite like it and it does seem a bit faster than Safari - like anything new you have to get used to its way of working.

Wasn't there a thread here recently about Safari slowing down? I can't find it... sad.gif

I have had no problem with FF 2.0 since I installed it a few days ago. I love the auto spell check, works like a charm. There is a faster version done by a private party that allows FF@ to speed up when performing tasks. I will try to find it.

Er, afraid not... actually I was looking in the wrong forum  oops.gif blush-anim-cl.gif  oops.gif

Thanks for the link anyway.

If anyone's still interested the reference is in this thread. It's probably not really relevant to this thread, but the post from MacOS10 about rebooting the Netgear might help someone.

Speaking of Firefox 2, I found something interesting, spell checker.

One of the new features of Firefox 2.0 is the built-in spell checker. And I made a test on how good the built-in dictionary is. And for the comparison, I also tested the same text in Safari which uses OS X's built-in spell checker.

This is the result of Firefox 2.0's built-in spell checker:

And for comparison, this is the spelling result from Safari 2.0.4:

(red underline indicates wrong spellings by either browser.)

As you can see, I carefully chose some word, most of them you can't find them in English dictionaries, but those words are well known and commonly used. (Those words are spelled in their preferred way, e.g. QuickTime and SeaMonkey.)

The Firefox's result is shocking!
Firefox refuses to recognise any of the registered trademarks/product names of Apple. ("apple" and "safari" can be found in dictionary.)

Mac OS X does recognise a few names such as "Mozilla", "Netscape" (those are not in standard dictionary.)

It is also interesting to note that if the word "Google" is recognised by Firefox, why doesn't Firefox know the words "iPod" and "QuickTime"? The word iPod is used a lot nowadays, and "QuickTime" is an important web technology (back to early Netscape days). Further, if Firefox says "Google" is a correct word, what's wrong with "MSN"? "MSN" is another very popular service as well.

I do realise Firefox's lead developer - Ben Goodger - currently works for Google.

Shall I jump into conclusion that Firefox guys do not like Apple?

Did anyone else have any trouble viewing the pictures on Gailwin's topic about "phonebooks" using Firefox 2.0?  I didn't see the pictures at first and then when I went in to comment about it they were in the edit window and then when I saved they were in the normal window.  Don't know if it was the browser or the TS site.  I tried this on both a PC and a MAC!

I couldn't see them for a couple of days in Firefox or SeaMonkey unless I logged in. So at last — duh — I fired up iCab that showed them, then I tried SeaMonkey again, and there they were.

A few minutes ago I couldn't get to TechSurvivors using FireFox or SeaMonkey unless it was through a link in an email notifying me of a thread reply. All I got was a blank page. Now I can, again.

I blame it on Halloween.

I can understand Apple's spell check not knowing iWeb and MacBook since those items came out after the latest OS. They surely knew those items were coming but if they included them in the dictionary that would have been tantamount to admitting those products were forthcoming. I remember the absurdity of the early versions that didn't even recognize 'email' as a proper word as well as 'website'.

As to the IPB images, for some reason the first time you view the thread it may not show. But if you merely reopen the page, the images are usually there. Haven't a clue why. huh.gif
