PC users include a very large game players group which are probably a lot younger than 55. It may also reflect the change in Apple's once more dominant role in education; if never exposed to a Mac, fewer would ever buy one. Our local schools still have a large investment in older iMacs and iBooks, however. It's amazing how often a picture in the local paper shows students using a Mac. That's about the only positive thing I can say about the city's school system, however. The county system is much better, but shrinking as Memphis annexes more land ( and gets the schools ).

gunug, you & I make the stat true. You are under 55 & I'm (way) over 55.

The older person usage could also be related to the fact that in the 80s when the Mac came out, it was easier to use than a PC that had DOS commands that you had to remember. Persons that were in their mid-30s when the Mac came out, are now over 55. Plus, generally, as a person ages, they are less likely to change brands, customs, etc because they are "comfortable" with what they are using/doing.

Plus, as most of TSers know, we are "smarter" than the average computer user. That's why we have a Mac.

While it may say half of Mac owners are over 55, it doesn't take into account how many users of those machines are under that age. It's those users who will eventually have the money (and smarts) to purchase a Mac of their own.
