I can see the obvious advantages to using one installation of Windows for both Boot Camp and Parallels for many, but I tried both methods and settled on Parallels for the sheer convenience of the occasional user.  Also, Parallels just automatically connects to my Airport connection, but I have trouble making that connection in Boot Camp.

I installed the Beta 3036 version normally (not in association with a Boot Camp partition), and it works with the Key purchased for the on sale 1970 version.  No need to get a free Key for test purposes if you already own Parallels.  I must say the 3036 Beta version integrates with Mac OS X in an easy to use manner.  thumbup.gif  This version is very good, but I'll look close at Leopard before writing off the Boot Camp approach.    Look.gif

Rather than having the sense to go to bed, I've been kicking the tires of Parallels Beta 3036 and finding that this version adds a lot of neat new stuff.  Can't wait to see 3036 when it comes out of Beta status.

One added feature is Coherence Mode.  In this mode, you are in your normal Mac desktop with the exception that the Windows Start menu bar is added directly above the Dock.  A Windows program (s) can be opened, a Mac application(s) can be opened or Mac and Window apps can be open at the same time.   cool.gif  Talk about integration.

The amount of installed memory will become a limitation with the Coherence Mode.  I have 2GB RAM, and I gave Parallels 1GB leaving the same for the Mac side.  This split so far keeps both Windows and Mac OS responsive for non-power user stuff.  If one needs Windows for power stuff, you would need more memory than a MBP can hold or you would need to use the Boot Camp approach.

And if you bought VPC, with a legitimate copy of XP Pro, here are directions on using your LEGITIMATE copy on/for your intel Mac
