106 mph winds at sea level is Cat 2.
So Beacher be careful on that bike, I hear the roads are wet. wink.gif

It was WILD!!!!! Reminded me of the tornado I lived through back in Illinois - only wetter and more wild. The winds on our hill hit 85 to that 106! Was pretty steady all day at 50-60mph.

We were surprised that our power stayed up. Thousands around us are without power, and without power many have no water (they are on wells). So the call went out this morning and everyone is pitching in to get help to those folks who are stranded. Rather amazing.

Where did you see a satellite photo? I'd grab it and send to my family.

Fortunately, the storm has passed! It's a beautiful sunny out there right now and I'm about to go for a walk.

Last night at work, it was a different story. Attempting to back a tractor/trailer with the wind blowing 60 mph and the rain driving into the windows and mirrors makes for a difficult process!

The park directly above where beacher lives has been closed due to downed trees. Let's hope no trees slid down the bank onto Ed!

Hey, SB, you commenting on my head?  Yep, I live right below Bruce (about 300', I think), and the waves were crazy wild last night.  We lucked out, in that it was only an 8.5' high tide, because these were the biggest rollers I've seen in 40 yrs., coming down through the Narrows (which acts as a wind funnel, which is why "Galloping Gertie" went down in 1940).  Heavy rains didn't make it any too pleasant either, when a 60' creosoted piling tried to deliver itself under my house, at about 2:30, just after high tide; I was lucky, 'cause I saw it coming past the house just next (about 8'!) to me, and I grabbed a pike pole and managed to steer it past the house.  With those heavy rollers behind it, it was not exactly a picnic, and I'm noticing some sore muscles this morning.  It really was beautiful though,in a kind of demented way!@

But today is beautiful, if not exactly calm, and I took the motorcycle out for a short ride this morning, to check out the damage over the hill.  Lots of trees down. . .

Whew - sounds like you guys on the left coast (OR & WA) got walloped! Worst wind storm in 10 years and knocked out power to over 700,000 in WA and 350,000 in OR. Seattle-Post Intelligencer didn't publish for the first time in 70 years because power knocked out their presses. Schools closed all over the place today.

Glad you came through ok, Beacher - I looked at a Google Maps satellite pic of your area; I hadn't realized just how "on" the water the houses at Salmon Beach really are!!!

It was a live shot  on the weather channel kimmer, they probably grabbed it from NOAA http://www.noaa.gov/. Glad to see you made it through OK, winds at that level can be dangerous. wink.gif

Hey Bruce, I didn't know you guys were neighbors. I happened to watch a plane taking off at an airport out there, and when it was about 50 feet off the runway a gust hit it, pushed the plane sideways a tip the wings. The plane lost about 30 feet of elevation and almost crashed. The report went on to say that the gusts at that point were approaching 70mph. I thought that was a bit sever to be flying around in, but what go i know? smile.gif

Beach, sounds like a fun time! I like to go out in it as well, and when it clears I take my bike out and ride around the downed trees and power poles. wink.gif

Here in Beaverton, lots of wind and rain. I feared for my brand new (2 days old) car but it was fine. Our winds here were much less than those on the coast. The missus decided she wanted to drive to the coast to see the big waves. It was a tough fight but I won. She is now gald she did not go as the Willamette Valley was isolated from the coast and from the East. Since our power lines are below ground we didn't have any power outages. However, when the lights started flicker due to some sub stations "blowing up", we turned off our computers. My backup power supply clicked a few times so I'm glad we took the precaution.

I'm glad all our Washington and Oregon TSers are safe and sound.

Good to hear all seem to have made it through the storms! Here's hoping those climbers are safe in a snow cave, but I fear that they didn't take much food as they were trying to travel light and fast. Still, if they were dressed for the cold, they should survive.

And the United States = The Banana system

Beacher  eek2.gif  and Bruce -- glad you 2 are safe and sound. I looked at Google Earth as well. MEEP! I'm thankful for our little hill and the tree break. wink.gif

MamaMoose, wise decision NOT to come over here. The roads are all now open, most everyone has power, still some repairs being done - but now is a great time to bundle up and come look at the waves. We took a drive yesterday and went to watch the waves. MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!! Around 25-30 ft swells, and probably 10 sec apart. AMAZING!!!!!!

Our friend has a weather station and he told us yesterday that we had sustained winds of 89-90mph during most of the storm, with those 106mph gusts. Har, Matey, t'was a real blow.  ahoy.gif

So now I can say I've lived through an F4 tornado, the major snow storm of '67 in Chicago, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, and a Cat 2 hurricane. Gosh, what a wild life I've lead. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

I also hope they find those climbers alive and well.

Tom, congrats on the new Moosemobile.

Yes - it is good to hear that you guys (Bruce and Beacher) in T-town are doing well. I moved from that area about 6 months ago and now live on Hood canal. We just got our power back and I have a huge pile of limbs in the back yard that will make for a nice fire some day soon.  We did come through the storm OK no real damage to anything so I guess all is well.

Well I better get back to the chores.
