iSight camera and Skype

I have been using a friends iSight camera to try out Skype. Everything seems to work fine except the sound is a little bit choppy. That is either because I have a 667 Mhz G4, and Skype says the minimum is 800 Mhz or the slowest (least expensive) internet cable offered by Cox. Anybody have any idea?

Secondly what is the general concensus of buying a used iSight camera or webcam off of eBay?

There are regular warnings here about buying things on eBay that . . .

1. very, very expensive
2. come from purveyors lacking a high percentage of satisfied buyers
3. are puchased at a great distance from your residence

All that being said, IF you were able to get a very good bid accepted, and you didn't mind losing the $$ if the deal went sour, then why not?

The iSight cameras (I've bought 3 "externals" for G4 laptops and an iMac since they first came out) have been faultless, with images that are just dandy. I have friends/clients with cameras from the comptetion that do not measure-up.

If your sound is less than desirable, wouldn't that be the mic not the iSight?

The mic that I am using is builtin to the iSight camera. I talked to another friend that is on a PeeCee that had a camera and the picture and sound that I received was choppy.

Don't be so sure that it was your borrowed iSight that was the problem.

I have had little but distress iSighting with PeeCees, whereas several times a week I do so with minimal difficulty with a number of TeeEssers from Hawaii to the UK . . . regularly.
