Verizon sells its New England phone service

1/16/2007 3:42:10 PM, by Nate Anderson

1.5 million New England residents are getting a new local phone company after incumbent Verizon agreed to sell its assets in three states to FairPoint Communications. Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont are being spun out of the Verizon embrace and into the arms of North Carolina-based FairPort, but the change shouldn't be noticeable—at first.

That's because FairPoint is keeping on Verizon's workforce. 3,000 Verizon employees will transfer their jobs to the new company, which then plans to add 600 more positions in the area.

This is really interesting, as our area is not really considered heavily populated, yet every time all the Verizon trucks are on the end of our little road, and I walk by them, they are 'hinting' that "Fiber Optic will be out here before you know it".
I wonder if our area is one of those 'test' areas that has been spoken about?
They wont really say much more than that, but they must be doing something important, as there are at least 2 trucks there almost every day.
They did get DSL to us way ahead of the proposed schedule, now that I think about it.
There is a huge  underground 'vault' that you could live in, up the street from us, just packed with equipment, you can hear the fans running at night if you walk over there.
Wouldnt that be really neat if this is true!  Thanks for the link.

Well, at least the "ir" will be easier for them to pronounce than the "ri" was. bump.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

This applies to Maine NH and VT only Jane.
As far as population goes the Cape is highly populated in summer with as many houses that occupy all of the state of Maine. Your area just might be on the way to a large pool of people and a bank load of revenue.  eusa_dance.gif

Folks on the Cape are more likely to buy FIOS, than say folks in Hainesville Maine  Devilish2.gif

Hi Sandbox,
The Allagash, thats where we might kayak and canoe this summer!  You read my mind.

Anyway, maybe this FIOS will be happening here on Cape Cod!   Where we live, in North Falmouth, is not anywere as populated as is Falmouth, Hyannis, and Barnstable.  But maybe we are dense enuf that they will bring it here.  Thats what those guys in the Verizon trucks are hinting at.  I would love it.
Being year around in an area that has a big summer colony about 10 minute walk away, when the people all go home, the cable system seems faster.
In the picture, at least 80% of the houses to the west of my 'pin', are mostly summer(thought lots of them leave their heat on all winter).
