Any ideas what may be causing these strange lines in my PS images when manipulating and correcting?  I have a fresh installl of OSX (10.4.8), so I would doubt it's an issue with video drivers.  The lines are a nuisance when doing work on an image.  I close the image and it's gone briefly.  No problems with printing.  Just viewing.

on what model Mac?

how much RAM?

does this happen on all images, or just certain ones?

I'm on a G5 1.6 with 1.5 gigs of ram and the stock video card.  It happens on all images (at least the ones I have opened and "played with").  Just opening an image and viewing it won't produce the lines.  It takes just a little bit of alterations to do it.  I should mention that I've never seen this happen on my Powerbook.

What kind of display?  What is the native resolution of that display, and what resolution are you using when viewing the image?

Viewsonic.  I just tried it both in 1280 x 960 AND 1280X1024 (I take this as native res?) and the lines appeared in both (I always run 1280x1024).  I did notice that the lines only seem to appear when zooming in the image.  Also, the lines go outside of the actual image to the edges of the PS window of the image.  Mousing over (without clicking) seems to act as an eraser on the lines.  I tried images at 300 and 180 for res.  Lines occured on both.

I'll assume you have a regular 4:3 display and not a "widescreen". What are the other choices checked at in the display pref's - ie color ?  Which version of PS are you using; was it installed after the OS installed; is it up to date?

I should mention that my video card is only 64 megs (GeForce FX 5200).  Can't see why that  would be a problem though.
You mentioned display colors.  Just checked and it is set to Thousands.  Moved it to Millions and I can't seem to reproduce the problems with lines.  Could that have been it?

The image is becoming corrupted when you manipulate or save it. I have seen two common causes of this problem.

1. You have defective RAM, a defective or failing hard drive, or both. Defective RAM is the most likely culprit.

2. You have Norton Antivirus on your computer. Norton Antivirus has a known and documented bug that causes it to corrupt Photoshop and InDesign files under certain circumstances.

Changing to Millions of colors in my Display settings solved the problem as far as I can see.

Isn't Adobe one of those companies that decided to 'control' memory usage differently than Apple suggests? But that could have been in pre-OS X. dntknw.gif At any rate, it sounds like a memory problem to me. Even with a large amount of hard drive space, there may not be enough contiguous space and that may be causing problems, assuming PS is losing track of what's where. dntknw.gif I suspect that the images are much larger than the 64MB video RAM could handle, also, thus the need for on-board or Virtual RAM. If changing the color 'gamut' works, so be it. Just doesn't seem logical. OTOH, 'logic' often escapes my grasp! blush-anim-cl.gif
