has anyone had experience buying a refurbished ipod from the apple store online?  is this risky?  thanks!

I bought a used mini from smalldog. Same difference.

What iPod do you have right now?

What machine will you be using it with? What OS?

Does it have USB 2?

i have a 3rd gen w/dock connector (that i inherited) that now holds absolutely no charge - so the cost involved in purchasing the battery and installation makes me wonder if it would be more cost effective to just trade it in (if that's possible) or buy a new or refurbished one w/video capability (why o why did the iphone have to be exclusive to cingular?! and how long will i have to wait for it to come to verizon?!)...  i also have a mini ipod that does not hold a full charge, but is still useful...  what do you think?  thanks kelly!  you rock!

p.s. - i use an ibook g4, os 10.4.8, 1.07 ghz processor, 256 mb memory

p.p.s. - thank you for all of the links - the prices are great; apple also sells a refurbished 60 gig video ipod for $229.00 - which if i had the money seems like an unbeatable price - i'm just not sure i'd wanna buy one used...

I would not hesitate to buy that iPod. If I was looking for one. smile.gif

Looks like you can get whatever you want/can afford.

My only caveat is that if they're years old, the Battery may be low. smile.gif

PS. You really, really need more RAM.

You can't really tell what your machine is capable of with what you have.

I recommend at least 512 MBs more.

and more RAM will do what?  (pardon my ignorance...)  make it go faster?  is installing it difficult?  i did use techsurvivors help previously to install an airport card myself in this machine, since mine is just old enough to have not come with one...  thanks!

idabble-Might I suggest you read some  testimonals?

Yes, more ram will make it much faster, more pleasurable experience.  OWC has a gig for your machine for $114 if you really want to go whole hog.  They include very concise instructions for changing/adding ram.  I just added a stick to my machne in under 10 minutes.  The most difficult task was finding the P0 bit.  (Sweet'ums cleaned the kitchen yesterday and put ithe bit back in the tool kit.  Can you believe it???) You really do need more RAM with that iBook. The hardest part I had in installing RAM in one daughter's iBook was getting the darn screw out. rolleyes.gif Other than that, it was pretty easy. smile.gif
