Hey guys, all of a sudden, an app that I've been using, with no problems, is refusing to load, claiming "not enough memory".  Went over to the classic preferences, increased the memory allocation to 1/2 gig, and tried again.  Classic memory/version page tells me that the memory use is there, and shows the app, but, definitely, it's not getting enough memory.  Pulled up the "get info" page for that app, but the memory panel gives them memory allocation, but it will not allow me to change it.  I rebuilt the desktop using Onyx, cleaned the caches and restarted, and get the same damn thing!  Very strange, because I can open up other calendars in the same app, but not 2007, which is, of course, what I need right now. . . Any ideas?

Reinstall the application?

Clean install - I mean Archive and Install?

I can never remember, is there an equivalent to preferences that could be corrupt. (I don't use OSX.)

I'm confused. You could change the memory allocation, then you couldn't? You sure the program was not running at the time? Could the calendar be corrupt? Can you ditch it and start another?

Have you tried repairing permissions? Tried creating a new user and seeing if the problem still exists?

I don't use that app so I really can't help much. no2.gif

Beacher didn't specify an OS, but I'm assuming some stripe of X.

Can't change app memory with OS X apps, and the thread title says classic.

I have a pre-X system extension called Total Desktop Rebuild that always loads first and can delete the two desktop files to ensure any corruption can't remain, then creates new ones. It kicks in automatically when you hold down the Command and Option keys. And I have Tech Tool Lite 3.0.1 that does the same thing. Either of those might help.

If you can see the memory allocation but not change it, that means either the application is still running (you must quit an application in order to change its memory), or the application is locked (make sure the "locked" checkbox in the Get Info window is turned off).

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys; Krissel gets the award, though.  Apparently the calendar itself was corrupted, somehow. . . it had less than 20K of data on it, and other calendars that had 800K of data had no trouble opening.  I was hoping that DW would take care of it, but, "No joy".  Guess it was lucky that it was this early in the year, eh?

And Tacit, thanks for reminding me of that; had forgotten you can't change the memory while the app is running; one of those "D'oh!" moments!@

Yup, that's why I asked if you were sure the program was not running at the time you tried to change the memory.

It's amazing how quickly you forget the once common routines for 9 after you spend time in X.    smile.gif
