OT: The long arm of the

Reading this mornings 'local' news, a headline caught my attention; "Alert clerk helps police get accuse sex offender". Surprisingly, the "clerk" was not in the Memphis area, but in Baltimore! Seems the guy was being sought after a 7 year old said he'd been assaulting her for over two years ( she had been treated at a children's hospital back in October ). There had been a report of the accusations and his name ( in the local paper ) several months ago. Of course, the accused had left the area for parts unknown immediately after the youngster was treated.

However, when this guys appeared in Baltimore recently, trying to change his name, the sharp clerk Googled his name and found references to the earlier newspaper article. The clerk notified the Mid-South Fugitive Task Force, which includes the U. S. Marshals Service. One contact led to another and the guy was arrested in the Baltimore area and is awaiting extradition back to Memphis.

And all because Google does a pretty good job of cataloging stuff!

Hopefully, the young girls will get support and counciling that is as efficient, through and caring.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

I'm surprised that this has been up all day, and no one has complained about "Big Brother" watching us....
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Some of the police departments around here have been posting some videos caught on security cameras, and there have been several robbers caught because people have recognized them!  And a drug dealer got nabbed by this too.
The quality of the security cameras has come way up, and it pays off.

I was wondering if there is a way to set up a system on a Mac that would work as a security camera, and have it actuated like the motion sensor lights.  We dont need it around here, but our local fish market got robbed twice. They didnt get any $ but they smashed the new cash register and that was worth about $1000.
I would think that a vulnerable store should have one anyway.

Jane: If it can be done with a Windoze PC, I'm sure it can be done more easily with a Mac  smile.gif

Thats a good link!   My friend who owns the fish market could do it this way.
I think that he is already looking into a solution.
Around this area, its not that the perps are unknown, its the short sentences that they are given, or sometimes just probation.  You see the same old names in the court report in the paper continuously.  The cops must get tired of catching these guys over and over again.
