need to catalog external drives-suggestions?
« on: April 09, 2007, 03:35:01 PM »
I keep a number of Hard Drives off site, so I need a cataloging program so I know what's where.

I have been using Catalog, but besides being very slow, it is now crashing on me all the time.

So I'd like to hear what others are using, prefer not to spend too much. I'm running an Intel iMac with 10.4.9.

Seems like there are a lot of options in the $20-25 range.

Disktracker (shareware) might be worth a look. I've been using an earlier version on the G3 for years and found it very efficient. First review on that link....

It just scanned 127.4 GB of data on an external Firewire drive in the time it took to write this review. Actually less, since it's done, and I'm still writing.

Might try the freeware app <PrintWindow>, it's made explicitly to print out the contents of Finder windows in numerous formats.

I've been trying out CDFinder and so far it looks good.

Very fast compared to Catalog, no crashes so far. You can compile up to 25 catalogs using the free version.
