Simultaneously closing open folders in list view
« on: April 16, 2007, 10:00:24 PM »
In side my Application folder are a bunch of folders (in list view) that are open. This makes searching within Aoos difficult. Is there any way that I can close all open folders simultaneously?

Thanks,

MamaMoose

Try this Tom. smile.gif

"If you do Cmd-A then shift-leftarrow, it will close up all the expanded folders in the current active window."

I don't know what "Aoos" is, but, man, this is easy in OS9... command-click, and all open windows close. That doesn't work in X?? Am I missing something else here?

I don't use List View, preferring Column View ( only available in 9 if you used Gregg's Browser, if I recall ), one of the best improvements in the Finder in OS X, IMHO. But when I have more than one Finder ( or any other app's ) window open, a command-option-w will close all of them at once.

Adding option to keyboard shortcuts will often do great things. smile.gif

Gregg, you're missing the original question...how to close multiple folders open in list view, not windows.  smile.gif

Thanks. Just now, I read kelly's post just before mine again. He made it crystal clear. I'm curious to see if that works in OS9 now. If I remember to try it at home, I'll chime in again, unless somebody beats me to it.

Unless you are restricted by a contract with Apple, could you reveal that technique to the "rest of us"? tongue.gif Remember, this forum is for finding and sharing solutions to people's problems. Even if you are the one who finds the 'trick' without any help from other members. smile.gif

Is my Post "invisible" for you Jim?  huh.gif

That was a tough find.

I'm rather proud of it actually.

That's a good one, kelly. thumbup.gif

I still have to try it.

Ok, no go in OS9

Shift - left arrow doesn't seem to do anything
