removing/installing fonts in OSX?
« on: February 11, 2003, 08:11:00 PM »
I'm not sure how they got there, but in one of my font folders, I have about 80 megs of asian fonts.  Is it safe to just trash these?  What about adding fonts?  Can I copy fonts from OS9 into OSX?  What font folder would I place them in?

I guess that's because you made a basic installation of OsX, than it drops all those files on your harddisk that you don't really need.
I used custom install and the things i didn't installed were lots of the language (i think i installed 4) and only the HP printer drivers.
Adding fonts to that folder on Mac OsX should work i guess, as long as they are comatible with OsX, and i don't really know if classic (bitmapp, postscript etc..) fonts are.
We use SuiteCase 10.0.x on OsX, and it works well, the only thing is that you need to keep SuiteCase running while you use fonts that aren't in  your startup folder.
SuiteCase is a soluttion to make a bridge between classic fonts to, cause it opens them on OsX.
I think the best way of adding fonts is make a new folder for your fonts you don't use daily (don't drop them in your startup folder) and get SuiteCase for those fonts.

I believe that when I installed OSX, I chose only the English language.  I unchecked the rest.  I just went into the Font folder to drag these asian fonts (.otf and .ttf), but it said they cannot be dragged to the trash because they cannot be deleted.  Why can't I delete them?  By the way, how do I find the path to this particular font folder?  All it tells me in the search is the partition it resides on.

I think...
When "search (find)" gives you what you found, see what path it gives you in the lower half of the "find" window.
Or, double click on the folder where you found your item, and do "command" click on the "folder name" in the window that popped up.
Now it should give you the path to the folder (like on Classic).

Would you believe I failed to pull down the column separation?  Now I can see the pathway in full.
