WOW.gif I can't wait to try some of these out!  Even with "upgrading" my office machine from a 450MHz to a 766MHz G4 I'll be slower than I want!

3. Clear out unwanted applications
Yesterday I was looking at my apps folder (trying to find an almost forgotten app) ... and I was shocked at the apps I have sitting there. I don't know what at least 1/3 of them do!  eek2.gif

Has anyone used TinkerTool, OnyX, or Monolingual?

I've used Onyx.  It always seems to speed things up for me.

Used all three. TinkerTool lets me hide the Dock at the top of the screen. Oynx has something unique, just can't remember what. blush-anim-cl.gif Also like Cocktail. I probably could speed things up by deleting a few utilities! laugh.gif Use Monolingual after installing any new app and after any OS upgrade.

Then there's Disk Inventory X, MemoryStick, Pacifist, Preferential Treatment, PrintWindow, Service Scrubber, ShowVolumeFrag, etc.

While these suggestions may be wise in other regards, I am not (yet) convinced that implementing them, at least some of them, will speed up OS X.

For example: "#14, Check dock for unwanted apps." AFAIK, the app is not in the dock, only an alias of it. Is this supposed to mean that an alias slows things down?  huh.gif

And it seems as if there are really only about 33 of them, after you eliminate the duplications. smile.gif
Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog very long.
Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.

I'd also like to make it known that an application known as "Xslimmer", removes the second binary from universal applications (say you have an intel mac, Xslimmer removes the PPC binary), and in some cases cutting the size of the application in HALF!

Using Xslimmer also cuts the time the application takes to load the application.

Xslimmer also removes language packs from programs that you don't need/want

However, Before it does anything, you have to authenticate it first, and you can review what languages you want to remove from a program and what you want to keep too.

I'm actually back from hiatus (and its about darn time too)!
