MS Office X
« on: May 15, 2007, 03:00:16 PM »
Hello,

I really do not know how this happened.  Somehow my format pallet got moved off screen.  I was working on a big spreadsheet with multiple sheets and formulas going from sheet to sheet and the pallet got in my way. I may have moved it to it's current loacation but I do not remember doing so. Anyway it is off the bottom of the screen and I can't get to it to drag it back.  I tried resizing my screen so that it was larger (more desktop) but it is at the highest setting.  Does anybody know how to get it back onm screen??

Thanks!

Bill,

When you say that you tried resizing your screen, does that mean that you changed the Screen Resolution via System Preferences/Displays?

If not, try that. And then, while "there", see if you can grab and quit Formatting Pallet. Successful or not, return to your present screen resolution. Perhaps it will then be available. dntknw.gif

Hi Pendragon,

Yep I tried that - I am already at the highest resolution (1280 x 1024) - I think I am sunk.

I am still not sure how it got so far off that I can't grab it.

When I use the tool bar button to toggle the pallet on and off and I can see it "fly" off the lower right hand corner.

It is kinda frustrating.

Did you try collapsing it and then adding it again from the tool menu? Regardless of resolution? This might be a stoopid suggestion, but what the heck...

Bill, this should work-

1. Quit all M$ applications
2. Go to Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal.
3. Put that "Normal" document in the Trash, but don't empty it yet.
4. Relaunch M$. If all is right again, you may empty the trash. But note, you may need to reestablish your M$ preferences (sorry). If the problem continues, you may return that file (in the trash) to whence it came.

Any success?

Thanks Pendragon!

Your solution did not work, but only because after I followed your path I could not find a document called "Normal".  However that got me thinking about pref files and I went into the library and found one called "Excel toolbar settings", so I trashed that and bingo - the world is right again!

Thanks for your help!

Bill, Glad to hear all is again right with the world. clap.gif

I really should have asked what version of Office you are using. The Normal path I gave is for Office 2004. If you are using Office X (or earlier), the path is different. Sorry.

yes - I still have the earlier version.  I am still stumped as to how this happened. I have tried over and over to make it go off screen so that I can figure it out but - no luck. No matter - I am glad it is fixed.
