Need Phone-cam advice for memory card
« on: June 27, 2007, 01:07:43 PM »
I just upgraded to a Samsung Sync A-707 camera phone, with rebate its only 25 bucks at the moment.
So went to Radio Shack and got a 2 G SanDisk microSD card for the phone, its compatible, it was on sale from $79 to $35, so I got the big card. Its really tiny!
I put it in the phone, and when I go to the folder where it is, the error say, Memory card has unrecognized format, would you like to reformat it now? Will erase all data.

So I hit yes, and it gives me in large letters ERROR.

Then went to SanDisk tech pages and found this below, which is no help as far as I can see.
So does anybody here have a clue what is going on?  And I havent even hooked it up to the Mac yet. Perhaps the card is not working properly?
Maybe I should plug it into the reader and see if it comes up as a little disk like my camera cards do.

"Corruption on card or Initialized in Mac format. Needs DOS format.

Solution:

YOU NEED A READER TO DO THIS

THIS WILL DELETE ALL FILES ON THE CARD

Reformatting the card is rather involved.
To reformat the card:

1) Under the "Apple" menu, select "Control Panels".

2) Select the "Extension Manager" Control Panel.

3) "Un-Check "File Exchange" extension (for Mac OS 8.5 or higher) and close "Extension
Manager".

4) Next choose "Restart" under the "Special" Menu.

5) After the Mac has restarted, insert the card into the reader.

Either the "Initialize" Disk will appear or you will have to choose "Erase
Disk..." from the Special Menu.

6) Click "Erase" and "Continue" this should go quickly, but if it doesn't, you may
have to restart manually.

7) After the Mac has restarted, Re-Check "File Exchange" extension and close "Extension Manager".

8) Next choose "Restart" under the "Special" Menu.
After the Mac has restarted, insert the CompactFlash card into the reader.

9) Choose "Erase Disk..." from the Special Menu.

10) Under the word "Format" choose the standard "DOS" format, NOT PRO DOS or MAC format

11) Click "Erase" and "Continue" this should go quickly, but if it doesn't, you may have to restart manually. Once completed, the card will be ready to go.

Need Phone-cam advice for memory card

Solved already.  By adding the solution, Im hoping that this help others, as these little cards are so darn tiny that you have to make sure its in the slot, they dont click like the other ones do.
I took the card out of the phone put it into the reader into the Mac, it was fine. So took it out, put it back into the phone, its fine.
I must not have had it pushed all the way into the slot.
Dumb today, I am.
Anyway the camera takes really nice pix, its a 2 mp cam.  Now I have to figure out how to transfer the pix out of the phone memory and onto the card memory so that I can use them on the Mac.
