You can have a trash can icon on the desktop with DragThing.

Your trash can is in the dock, you can adjust the preferences in the dock to keep the it exposed by clicking off Automatically hide the dock preference.

or

use the keyboard

Move the selected item to the Trash

⌘ + Delete

Empty the Trash

⌘ + Shift + Delete

Empty the Trash without any warning or when it contains locked files

⌘ + Shift + Option + Delete
Option + choose Finder > Empty Trash

Here's a method I use a lot:  Put the "Delete" symbol in the top bar of every finder window by using "Customize Toolbar" under "Edit".

Then you can highlight files, click on the Delete button, and they're gone.

Note that I also keep Photo Mechanic & the Script Editor there for quick access.

Thanks for that great tip! Though for me, maybe because I'm in 10.3.9, "Customize Toolbar" was under the "View" menu.

Highly recommend <iCan>. Several styles to choose from. I like the Kitchen one, many options available and it just works ( at least back to Panther ). smile.gif

Just a note, I also use the Delete button in the top of each Finder window like Tom does, but I made sure I put another icon (New Folder icon) between it and the Get Info icon. Why? Because I kept hitting the Delete icon when I meant to hit the Get Info icon and sent stuff to the Trash accidentally.
Now it's not next to the Delete icon so I don't make that mistake.

I suspect, as a notebook user i tend to use the keyboard more than icons. Not always having a mouse makes one tend to press & go. Even when I'm docked into my Logitech keyboard and mouse the mouse doesn't get the exercise it could in someone else's care. wink.gif
