My first stop for "research" is always TS. If no one here uses QuickBooks, then I'll do "real" reasearch.

Is there a version for Macs that enables you to share files seamlessly with a Windows user? Does that require OSX? Or, does it require Windows on the Mac?

Thanks! smile.gif

They really are two seperate programs. You can exchange files across an Excel spreadsheet (if you have MacOffice) but not to my knowledge, directly with Windows.

Thanks. smile.gif

And then there's the cost: upwards of $2,000 since I'd have to get a new computer too. sad.gif

Gregg, quickbooks is really a commercial application. If you don't have employees and complicated account structures it's hard to justify the need or the expense. Quicken serves most personal and small business needs including bank networks.

Actually SB, according to the Quickbooks page at Intuit, opening a PC Quickbooks file on a Mac shouldn't be any problem and doesn't require Excel:

Q: What's involved in upgrading from an earlier version, or from QuickBooks for Windows or Quicken?
A: Upgrading from an earlier version of QuickBooks Pro for Mac is easy. You can automatically transfer data from QuickBooks Pro 2006, 2005, 6.0, 5.0 or 4.0 (M12) for Mac. You can also easily convert your data from QuickBooks for Windows 2007 (Simple Start, Pro and Premier versions). If converting from QuickBooks for Windows, you'll need to save a copy your QuickBooks backup file (.QBB file) to a CD, USB drive or other storage device to transfer the file to the Mac. Then simply open the file on QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Mac.

Gregg, I used Quickbooks 4 (and in fact had a copy I gave away a few months ago... sad.gif) which would have worked fine on your OS 9 Mac.

Maybe there's hope! I'm being forced into this position by a fellow volunteer.

Well, it's a great program, but something you'll need to check is compatibility between your version and his. It's several versions beyond what runs on an OS 9 machine! What version is he using?

Here's QB Pro 4.0 on eBay which is probably the only place you're going to find it. I didn't bother trying to sell my copy because nobody seemed to be buying the copies that were available!!

Quickbooks 4 is the last version to run on OS 9, so it's either that or new computer time! And make sure you get version M12A - it's the last update and apparently required for conversions to later versions. wink.gif

Or call Intuit and find out the details on the update, since it is no longer available for download and you wouldn't want to find out that they charge an arm and a leg for it!:

And last, but certainly not least, there is a very good Quickbooks forum here: http://quickbooksgroups.com/index.html

I had been looking for a way to run/learn QB on my Mac and I just purchased this item from eBay.

Is there anything I should know about installing programs that run only in "Classic" when you have an OS X System? I am running Panther.

Thanks,
Francine

Thanks for the info Paddy, I've never needed to transfer Quickbooks from Mac to PC or PC to Mac but have converted a file or two to Excel on request. I suspect if the recipient wanted, they could import it into a Quickbook page on a PC.

Thanks Paddy. I'm just getting into this, and don't have any specifics yet.
