SimpleText problem
« on: July 31, 2007, 11:07:45 AM »
I just received a new HP Deskjet 5740 for my Macintosh system 9.2.2. This is a new but discontinued printer, apparently one of the few that are compatible with my Mac. It prints everything except SimpleText documents. When trying to print SimpleText document, it says "unable to load the printer driver, try increasing application memory." I increased it  from 350 to 1000K, on both the printer and the driver (not SimpleText); still no luck. The SimpleText memory is 192K-512K; I haven't changed that yet. Anyone know about this? (My previous printer, which just went to heaven, had no problem with this.)

Also, from the moment I click "print" to when the printer buttons flash, it takes about 20 seconds. It should start printing more quickly, I think. I asked HP about this; they were unable to help. Anyone know what to do about that? Thanks!

Definitely up the memory for the application. It is what controls the print process despite the fact that the printer seems to have the biggest part of the job. The application sends the information and needs enough memory to not only hold and work on the file but send the file as well.

Give Simple text at least double it's present memory... or more.
