Paintbrush 1.0, Mac version of MS Paint
« on: August 18, 2007, 01:31:26 AM »

If you recently switched from Windows, you might want to know where is the equivalent program to Microsoft Paint.

Paintbrush can open and save to most major image formats, including BMP, PNG, JPEG, and GIF. It is not intended to replace Photoshop or other high-end image editors. It is design to provide some very basic drawing needs.

This is a screenshot of Microsoft Paint.

New features in this version include:
  • Saves as PNG by default instead of BMP
  • Holding shift while using shape tool results in perfect square/circle/lines
  • Undo/redo works with cut and paste
  • Keyboard shortcuts for zoom in/out/actual added

Paintbrush is released under GUN license, and it is free. You can download Paintbrush from Source Forge.

MicroSoft Paint looks like some kiddy program from the mid 90's.

Makes me appreciate AppleWorks all the more.  smile.gif

Sorry, I think the list of "New features" speaks volumes of this apps history, support and capabilities. I'm assuming that it is a free program?

Yes, Paintbrush is free, released under GNU license, and the binary is Universal Binary.

I guess I'm glad you answered that way. I was suspecting that we/I had been on the receiving end of a hoax! blush-anim-cl.gif But "free" sounds like a reasonable 'price' for this app. smile.gif

Paintbrush is not intended to replace Photoshop or other high-end image editors. Instead, it aims to fill the need for a basic, streamlined editor for those times when you just feel the need to doodle.
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

LOL, looks promising. LOL.gif

If anyone is looking for a vector graphics app to replace AW drawing programme, try Inkscape it's a free opensource app available for Windows, Linux and OS X (with X11).

For painting there's always GIMP.
