Newer version of iPod any sooner?
« on: January 29, 2003, 09:00:00 PM »
Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a 20GB iPod, however, I'm worry Apple might have release a 100GB iPod (ok, not 100GB) 2 weeks after I brought. It's easy to predict laptop and desktop release but for iPod. I'm not sure. Anyone hear any rumour?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Teng Chou Ming

I think youre safe with the 20. They're stuffing a lot in there. From what i understand it has two little 10G HD platters.
I heard about the 20 right after i got my 5 as a present so it took some of the fun out out of it. But the 20 has been out there for a while and I havent heard anything further. check the ipodlounge for rumors.

cmteng,According to iPoding, Toshiba is now making a 40GB version of the 1.8" drive found in the iPod. But what this portends for a new iPod, well, only Steve knows for sure.

cmteng New iPods this week? I dunno, but the folks at MacWhisper http://www.macwhispers.com/ seem to believe new IPods will be announced very soon.

"The new drives not only increase capacity over the existing drive line up, they have substantially better performance specifications, as well. The primary gain is in buffer memory, which rises from 1MB on the old 5 and 10GB drives, and 512KB on the old 20GB drive, to now be 2MB across the board on each of the new 20, 30, and 40GB drives. No updates have been made to the existing 5 and 10GB drives; and, we have learned, the 5GB drive is to be EOL'd by Toshiba within 90 days of first shipping the three updated drives."
