Firmware update

About this update
QUOTE
If you are updating a portable Mac, make sure that your AC adapter is plugged in. The Firmware Updater application will not run unless the computer is connected to AC power.
Locate the appropriate update for your Macintosh model, and download it to your computer by clicking the update's title, then clicking on the file size indicator in download details or at the bottom of the page.....
Some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly. If you are having trouble installing an update try disconnecting non-essential devices and use only an Apple keyboard, mouse, and display.

MacBook Pro
Intel iMac
Mac Pro
MacBook
Despite reading problems on other boards, I applied the update with NO problems.

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

So Jennie,

What happens when you mess up this firmware upgrade? My sister apparently took her finger off the power button holding it down in the middle of the upgrade (not sure what part of the instructions this was for...)

EDIT:
So, I went to your link from Apple and found out that she has probably inadvertently shut her MacBook down by taking her finger off the power button momentarily, , and will need a trip to the Apple store to cure what happened. If I were there, I could download a restore CD to my computer, but I'm not, and she has Applecare anyway...

She's quite tech-a-phobic... this certainly isn't helping! Beware the slipping finger on the power button in the middle of the firmware upgrade toothgrin.gif !

And that is why I called my "messed up his last upgrade, through no fault of his own, but he didn't know to disconnect ALL non essential peripherals" friend and told him not to do it.

You must wait for the bong, and let it do it's thing, according to the directions.

Apple has apparently changed the list of which computers actually need the upgrade. If yours is of the newest variety ( serial numbers starting with MP31) not only do you not need the upgrade, it simply can't be done. Seems the software designers were smarter than the text writers! smile.gif "Left Hand, meet Right Hand." laugh.gif
