You'll poke your eye out, kid!

Hey! Hey! Hey!* Great line, and a great reminder that today begins the Christmas season in our household. All the Christmas/Holiday movies are dusted off and ready to go. First up ... A Christmas Story. Gotta start things off with the best. santagrin.gif

(*I'd have said HO! HO! HO! but you know that's not proper any more.)

Over the next several weeks, we'll indulge in Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas In Connecticut, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and the Die-Hard movies (it's a Sneakers tradition).

On 12/11, kimmer will settle in with popcorn (and maybe eggnog) and watch The Bishop's Wife ... all by herself ... a kimmer holiday tradition. wink.gif

By the way, a good listing of Christmas movies is here:

What holiday movies do you folks watch?

All the ones you mentioned, (especially "A Wonderful Life", but not the DieHard) plus:

White Christmas
A Christmas Carol (Alistair Sim or George C. Scott version)
Home Alone
A Charlie Brown Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

OK, so some aren't exactly movies, but they are traditional nevertheless.

Then there was a little known movie I saw about 30 years ago which I would often describe to people and draw a blank look on their faces. It was called "The Christmas Tree". It was about a man (William Holden) whose son is exposed to radiation while boating off the coast of Spain and the subsequent story is a tear jerker, especially the last few scenes. They are still stuck in my mind. The back story to the plot is based on a real incident where a US bomber had a refueling accident and exploded, dropping its four bombs, one of which landed in the Mediterranean.

I finally found it online after a bit of looking. Seems it was rereleased under a different name, "When Wolves Cry".  Think I may pick up a copy. smile.gif

Oh, we may have to see if the rental store has A Christmas Carol (Alistair Sim would be my choice) and the Charlie Brown Christmas. smile.gif

We're going to a live performance of White Christmas next weekend. Should be fun!

We don't watch too many movies on TV. I can't remember when the last time was. It's probably been years.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

We watched Christmas Vacation last night for the umpteenth time. Chevy Chase is a trip!
Not recommended for the younger set.
Altho our 5-year old granddaughter snuck out of bed and was listening from the dining room.

Our favorite is Christmas Story as quoted on thread title.

Some guy bought  the house this movie was filmed in in Cleveland. He's making a museum out of it, including the "Lamp".
Haven't been there yet. Not sure if it's open.

The live performance sounds great, Gregg. There are several concerts and a few performances of the Nutcracker going on around here. We'll try to catch as many as we can.

I have to ask, do you not watch broadcast movies filled with commercials? Or do you not rent / own VHS / DVDd movies and watch them? I'm always curious what technologies folks have embraced -- or not embraced. smile.gif

Hope she didn't have too many questions for mom and dad later. hehehe

GO TO See "The Sparrow" at the Avalon theater  through 12/31.

OR

The adaptation of "The Nutcracker" at the Steppenwolf Theater

Both productions by The House Theater group......

I like Christmas Story (or anything else by old Shep), the Santa Clause movies, and the Polar Express.  There is also a particularly spooky Nutcracker I'd like to get on tape (usually it's on PBS).

We watch more movies at the theater or on VHS than on broadcast TV. But, I'd guess maybe one movie for every five years on each. The last movie at a theater that we went to was the last of the Lord of the Rings series. Can't say we've ever watched a movie from a DVD since getting a combo VCR/DVD a couple of years ago. And we have watched a couple of movies in the last ten years courtesy of DISH Network pay per view coupons. No movie buffs here.

The Ballet does Nutcracker every year. The Rep does A Christmas Carol every year. We've been to each of them once. Now the Skylight Opera is doing White Christmas every year. This will be our first (and last?) time seeing it. The MSO did the Messiah last year, but not this year. That's on my "must do" list for the next performance.
