Many organizations are standing by, with nervous hands, as the 'other shoe drops.' Many of these bands have been in use for years for very low powered wireless mics. While news mics have multiple frequencies available (and some can even search for an empty one), older models may be made unusable when a local station decides to use that freq with a few hundred watt transmitter.
There appears to be no 'Grandfathering' built into the new rules. It's pretty much 'he who has the most powerful transmitter wins' operation. Hopefully, the manufacturers of these kind of mics will come up with a reasonably priced solution...or there is going to be a big boost in mic cable sales!
