Tell me, Mac
« on: November 27, 2007, 12:58:12 PM »
My son is so busy with studying and needing to get grad school applications in by the deadlines, and taking the GRE, etc. etc. etc.

I told him he needs a little reminder application for OSX like the one I have for 9 (Dave's Remember?).

I did a little searching and found:
Event Reminder from Supermagnus
iMOnTime from Expersis

Does anyone know about these? or others?

I'm not sure iCal fits the bill. But, what do I know about OSX apps?? dntknw.gif

iCal should do what he needs. It can be set to pop up a 'reminder' just about any finite time before an event, and it can also repeat the alert, if needed. I'm shooting from the hip on this, as I have used iCal for not much more than its 'reminder' functions; retired people don't need calendars! tongue.gif

From the way my in-law travel about, it's the "kids" who need calendars to keep track of their whereabouts! wink.gif

Once your son gets married, he'll have some one to 'help' him remember all the details about where to be and when. Not that he still won't remember...wallbash.gif

iCal does a great job of reminding me of stuff. I set it to remind me a day before and then some appropriate period of time before an appointment/meeting etc. It pops up with the reminder and an alert sound of your choosing (if you wish) and the alert stays on top of all open windows unless you dismiss it. Very handy.

Hmmm...maybe I could remotely set son #1's iCal to remind him of things every 5 minutes so I wouldn't have to?? Remote nagging...now there's a concept! Devilish2.gif

That's not a gender thing is it? devilishgrin.gif

So maybe my son's got what he needs. I'll just have to set it to remind him to use it.

I started up iCal a while ago to set a reminder and it popped up with several that should have appeared over the last week or so. I think I have "iCalAlarmScheduler" in my login items...yep, but it appears that the pref panel doesn't know what "kind" of 'thing' it is. It's listed as "Unknown", nor do I see anything by that name in a search of the HDs...Thinking.gif
.
.
.
later:
It was in there all the time, just didn't look far enough down the list. Typed in "ical" and hit "iCal Helper.app". Figuring that "Alarm" should have come before "Helper" I gave up. wallbash.gif But the actual title is "iCalAla...", no space. doh.gif Stupid me.

But it was still not selectable via a normal navigation window to put it into the Login Items list. But I discovered that a 'drag-n-drop' works just fine, thank you, very much! smile.gif Where there's a Will there's always a Bill, or something like that...Thinking.gif

And, it now is seen as the true ".app" that it is! clap.gif I just hope that will correct the problem of the 'reminders' not reminding!
